What is the Family Nutrition Program?

The Family Nutrition Program is a nutrition education program with a goal of helping food stamp program participants and eligible non-participants acquire knowledge, skills, attitudes and changed behavior necessary for maximizing resources to achieve nutritionally sound diets.  The goal of food stamp nutrition education is to provide educational programs that increase, within a limited budget, the likelihood of food stamps recipients making healthy food choices and choosing active lifestyles consistent with the most recent advice reflected in the Dietary Guidelines for Americans.

How Can I Participate in the Family Nutrition Program?

You may contact your local Extension Office for a listing of programs and classes being offerd in your county.  All programs are offered to clientele on a nondiscriminatory basis.

Midwest Region Food and Nutrition Service, United States Department of Agriculture, funds Ohio State University Extension's Family Nutrition Program (FNP).  FNP is a joint partnership between the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services and OSU Extension in an effort to improve the level of nutrition education of families and individuals who are food stamp program participants or eligible non-participants in non EFNEP counties and food stamp program participants or eligible non-participants who are elderly and/or adults without young children in EFNEP counties.  FNP began in Ohio in the fall of 1992 (FY93) in 12 rural counties.  In FY 2004 the Family Nutrition Program will be in 73 Ohio counties.
