DEPT:  J11  Junior Dog
CLASS:  001      LOT: 001    Sub Novice A
This class is for the beginning exhibitor and beginning dog.  Neither handler nor dog have had any prior obedience experience before their county's current enrollment deadline.  All exercises will be performed on leash.  Exercises to be performed include: heel, figure 8, stand for examination, recall, long sit (1 minute), long down (3 minutes).

 

CLASS:  001      LOT: 002    Sub Novice B
This class is for the handler or dog who has shown in Sub-Novice A or has had experience at the Sub-Novice level prior to their county's current enrollment deadline.  They have not yet progressed to Novice level or higher.  Exercises same as Sub Novice A.  Exhibitor can repeat class with same dog or different dog unless class winner, then move to Novice A.

 

CLASS:  002      LOT: 001    Novice A
In this class, neither the handler nor the dog has had any prior experience at the Novice level before their county's current enrollment deadline.   Exercises to be performed include: heel on leash, figure 8 on leash, stand for examination off leash, heel free off leash, recall off leash, long sit (1 minute off leash), long down (3 minutes off leash).

 

CLASS:  002      LOT: 002    Novice B
This class is for the Exhibitor or dog who has shown in Novice A or has had experience at the Novice level prior to their county's current enrollment deadline.  They have not yet progressed to Graduate Novice A level or higher.  Exercises same as Novice A.  Exhibitor can repeat class with same dog or different dog unless class winner, then move to Grad Novice A.

 

CLASS:  003      LOT: 001    Graduate Novice A
Youth who exhibited for the first year in Grad Novice A last year can remain in Grad Novice A with the same dog for current year.  Youth who exhibited for 2nd year in Grad Novice A last year must move go Grad Novice B with same or different dog for current year.  Exercises to be performed include:  heel on leash and figure eight off leash; moving drop on recall; dumbbell recall; recall over high jump; recall over broad jump; 3-minute long down (handler out of sight).

 

CLASS:  003      LOT: 002    Graduate Novice B
This class is for the Exhibitor or dog who has shown in Graduate Novice A or has had prior experience at the Graduate Novice level.  They have also not progressed to the Open level or higher.   Exercises same as Graduate Novice A.  Exhibitor can repeat class with same dog or different dog unless class winner, then move to Open A.

 

CLASS:  004      LOT: 001    Open A
In this class, neither the Exhibitor nor dog has had any prior experience at the Open level before the county's current enrollment deadline.  Once a member shows in this class, he/she must move to Open B at the very minimum.  All exercises will be performed off leash.  Exercises to be performed include: heel free and figure 8; drop on recall; retrieve on flat; retrieve over high jump; broad jump; long sit* (3 minutes) and long down - 5 minutes).    *handler out of sight.

 

CLASS:  004      LOT: 002    Open B
This class is for the Exhibitor or dog who has shown in Open A or has had prior experience at the Open level.  They have also not progressed to the Graduate Open level or higher.  Exercises same as Open A.  Exhibitor can repeat class with same dog or different dog unless class winner, then move to Grad Open A.

 

CLASS:  005      LOT: 001    Graduate Open A
In this class neither the Exhibitor nor dog has had any prior experience at the Graduate Open level, or a higher level of dog obedience, before the county's current  enrollment deadline.   All exercises will be performed off leash.  Exercises to be performed include: signal exercise; scent discrimination; directed retrieve; moving stand and examination; go out; directed jumping.

 

CLASS:  005      LOT: 002    Graduate Open B
This class is for the Exhibitor or dog who has shown in Graduate Open A or has had prior experience at the Graduate open level, or a higher level of dog obedience.    Exercises same as Graduate Open A.

 

CLASS:  006      LOT: 001    Brace
A team of dogs.  Exercises to follow Sub Novice A.

 

CLASS:  007 Agility
           LOT: 001 Beginners
           LOT: 002 Elementary
           LOT: 003 Intermediate

 

CLASS:  008      LOT: 001    Pilot Dog

 

CLASS:  009 Rally
Rally is a sport in which the dog and handler complete a course that has been designed.  The judge tells the handler to begin and the dog and handler proceed at their own pace through the course that has designated stations that have signs providing instructions for the dog and handler.

           LOT: 001 Novice A
This class is for the exhibitor and/or dog with no prior experience showing at any Rally level before April 1, or their county's enrollment deadline.

           LOT: 002 Novice B
This class is for the exhibitor and/or dog who has had prior showing experience at the Rally Novice level before April 1, or their county's enrollment deadline.

 


RULES

 

  1. All entries must be carried as current year projects.
  2. A.  If the dog is registered by the AKC, UKC, individual, breeds registries, etc. the Exhibitor's name or a member of their immediate family's name must appear on the registration certificate.  Co-ownership of a dog is permitted provided the Exhibitor's  name or a member of their immediate family's name is listed on the registration certificate.  A copy of the registration certificate must be on file in the County Extension Office by first Friday in April each year.

    B. If a non-registered dog was purchased from a private owner, pet shop, humane society, etc., the Exhibitor's name or a member of the immediate family's name must appear on the bill of sale.  A copy of this bill of sale must be on file at the County Extension Office by first Friday in April each year.

    C.  If a dog was given to an Exhibitor or immediate family, or found by the Exhibitor or immediate family, the Exhibitor or a member of their immediate family receiving or finding the dog should verify that date received or found by use of veterinary records, dog licenses, and other forms of records, and write a statement as to the definite or approximate date the dog was received as a gift or found.  A copy of this statement must be on file in the County Extension Office by first Friday in April each year.

  3. All dogs participating in the Highland County Fair must be immunized against distemper (CDV), Hepatitis, Leptospirosis, Parvovirus (CPV), Parainfluenza (CPI), and rabies by a licensed, accredited veterinarian.  All vaccinations must be current through Highland County Fair show dates. See certificate of vaccination, 2009.

    A.  All Exhibitors must have either an ODA Official Health Certificate or the Certificate of vaccination for the Ohio Junior Fair Dog Show Project available for examination when registering at the Highland County Fair.

    B.  The required vaccination must be given two weeks prior to the first 4-H fun show the dog is participating.

  4. Only domestic dogs are permitted to be shown at the Highland County Jr. Fair Dog Show.  Wolf and wolf hybrids are not permitted.
  5. Females in season will not be exhibited.  If a female shows any sign of heat, she will be eliminated from the show and sent home.  Any female which appears so attractive to males as to be a disturbing element, will be eliminated from the show and sent home.  Pregnant and/or lactating (nursing) female dogs are not permitted on the Fairgrounds, and are not permitted to be shown.
  6. Each exhibitor will keep his/her dog on a leash while on the fairgrounds except when participating in the ring and judging.  No prong collars, etc. are allowed.
  7. All exhibitors will display good sportsmanship with their own dog and other exhibitors at all times.  No dog is allowed in the dog show arena except dogs to be judged.
  8. Any exhibitor who is showing a dog that poses a threat to people or other animals will be asked to leave the fairgrounds.
  9. The show will be judged according to the Junior Fair Dog Obedience, Grooming and Showmanship score sheets.
  10. During the project year, which begins no later than first Friday in April, no one other than the Junior Fair Exhibitor is permitted to show the project dog at any type of dog show including fun matches.
  11. Exhibitors showing their dogs at any Licensed or Member Obedience Trial or at a Sanctioned Match must show their dogs at the same or higher B level classes than they are showing in AKC, UKC, or other titling shows.  Dogs completing their Companion Dog (CD) title (or UKC or other titling equivalents) prior to, or anytime during, the project year must show in the Graduate Novice B class at the very minimum.  Dogs completing their Companion Dog Excellent (CDX) title (or UKC or other titling equivalents) prior to, or anytime during, the project year must show in Open B or Graduate Open B classes.  Any dog receiving one or more legs toward a championship title anytime during the project year must then move into the appropriate B class at the time the first leg was earned.
  12. Dogs should be 6 months or older to show.
  13. All exhibitors must be registered by 8:30 a.m. on Monday, 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, 9:30 a.m. on Friday.
  14. Individuals who violate any rule and/or exhibit poor sportsmanship during the Junior Fair Dog Show WILL BE DISQUALIFIED from showing and removed from the Fairgrounds.  Judges' decisions are FINAL.  Individuals are NOT permitted to have any discussion with judges at any time throughout the Dog Show.  Individuals with concerns must express them in writing, give them to Show Personnel, and those concerns will be discussed at the fall 4-H Dog Advisory Committee meeting.  Confrontations with Judges and/or Show Personnel will result in removal of those individuals from the Fairgrounds and in disqualification of exhibitors.

Dog Showmanship

 

CLASS:  010      LOT: 001    Junior Grooming and Handling A
This class is for the junior fair exhibitor  9-11 years of age as of January 1, current year.  Neither the junior fair exhibitor nor the dog has had any prior experience in Grooming and Handling before the county's current enrollment deadline.

 

CLASS:  010      LOT: 002    Junior Grooming and Handling B
This class is for the junior fair exhibitor or dog who has shown in Junior Grooming and experience in Grooming and Handling before the county’s current enrokllment deadline.

The junior fair exhibitor must meet the age requirements of 9-11 years of age as of January 1, current year.

 

CLASS:  011        LOT: 001    Intermediate Grooming and Handling A
This class is for the junior fair exhibitor 12-14 years of age as of January 1, current year.  Neither the exhibitor nor the dog has had any prior experience in Grooming and Handling, AKC Jr. Handling or like experiences, or a champion title before the county's current enrollment deadline.

 

CLASS:  011        LOT: 002    Intermediate Grooming and Handling B
This class is for the junior fair exhibitor or dog who has shown in Intermediate Grooming and Handling A or has had prior experience in Grooming and Handling, AKC Jr. Handling or like experiences, or a champion title before the county's current enrollment deadline.  The exhibitor must meet the age requirements of 12-14 years of age as of January 1, current year.

 

CLASS:  012        LOT: 001    Senior Grooming and Handling A
This class is for the junior fair exhibitor 15-18 years of age as of January 1, current year. Neither the Exhibitor nor the dog has had any prior experience in Grooming and Handling before the county's current enrollment deadline.

 

CLASS:  012        LOT: 002    Senior Grooming and Handling B
This class is for the junior fair exhibitor or dog who has shown in Grooming and Handling or has     had prior experience in Grooming and Handling before the county's current enrollment deadline.  The exhibitor must meet the age requirements of 15-18 as of January 1, current year.

 

CLASS:  013        LOT: 001    Dog Sweepstakes (Highland County only).
Any junior fair exhibitor that has won Junior Grooming & Handling A or B, Intermediate Grooming & Handling A or B, Senior Grooming and Handling A or B.  Refer to Jr. Fair Showmanship rules for Showman of Showmen contest.
