Ty Hamilton serves as the Agriculture and Natural Resources and Community Development Educator for Ohio State University Extension in Highland County. In this role, he develops and delivers research-based educational programs that strengthen agriculture, support thriving communities, and improve the quality of life for Highland County residents.
Ty's programming focuses on beef cattle production, small ruminant management, and youth development, with an emphasis on agricultural leadership and community engagement. He works closely with agricultural producers to improve the productivity, profitability, and sustainability of their operations through educational programs, on-farm research, and one-on-one technical assistance. He also collaborates with local governments, businesses, nonprofit organizations, and community leaders to identify local needs, develop leadership capacity, and create educational opportunities that strengthen communities across Highland County.
Ty earned a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from The Ohio State University College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences and a Master of Arts in Strategic Leadership and Executive Management from Liberty University.
In addition to his Extension programming, Ty serves as the Highland County Junior Fair Coordinator, working alongside volunteers, youth organizations, agricultural stakeholders, and community partners to coordinate the Highland County Junior Fair. He also supports Highland County 4-H programming and serves on the planning committee for Ag is Everyone's Business, an annual event recognized as one of southern Ohio's premier agricultural career exploration and community engagement events.
As a lifelong resident of Highland County, Ty is the seventh generation of his family to live and work on their diversified farm. Growing up in a family rooted in agriculture and small business has given him a deep appreciation for the opportunities and challenges facing rural communities. He is passionate about helping local farms, businesses, organizations, and residents build a stronger future for Highland County through research-based education, collaboration, and community partnerships.
